FAQ

How many difficulty levels does the base KIBORG Tower have?
Seven. Steam achievements cover Tower clears on Difficulty Levels 2, 3, 4 and 5, and the 15 June 2026 patch notes name Difficulty 4 (Master of the Spire) and Difficulty 7 (Beyond the Summit). We did not read the Level 6 achievement text, so we do not quote it.
What are KIBORG difficulty 8 and 9?
They are the two new difficulty levels that come with KIBORG: Descent. The 9 May 2026 patch notes added skulls to difficulty levels 8 and 9, and the 2 May 2026 hotfix made Descent difficulty rise automatically from 8 to 9 after completion.
Do you have to beat Difficulty 7 before Difficulty 8?
Not stated in Sobaka Studio posts we read. The official note says Descent content opens after finishing the main game for the first time. A Gamer Social Club review (May 2026) says you must clear the base game on its hardest setting and that Descent starts at Level 8. Treat that as a reviewer report.
Does Endless Mode count as a difficulty level?
No. After the final boss you can continue into Endless Mode, and KIBORG team member Geisteskrankenchan says each floor increases enemy damage and attack speed. It is a separate mode, not a numbered Tower tier.
What do Descent Difficulty Level 1 and 2 mean?
The 14 July 2026 rebalance says Descent Level 1 suits players still progressing through the base game with part of the upgrade system unlocked, and Level 2 suits experienced players who find Tower Difficulty 7 too easy. No source says how these labels map onto levels 8 and 9.

KIBORG’s difficulty ladder runs 1 to 7 in the base Tower, and the paid KIBORG: Descent expansion adds two more levels that the game marks with skulls as 8 and 9. What Sobaka Studio has not published is a single sentence that says exactly what unlocks Level 8. This page separates what is official from what a reviewer or player reports.

How many difficulty levels does the base Tower have?

Steam’s achievement page ties several clears to a specific level:

Achievement Requirement on the Steam page
Scaling Heights Complete the Tower on Difficulty Level 2
Tower Challenger Difficulty Level 3
Master of the Spire Difficulty Level 4 (rewards the Commando implant set, per the 15 June 2026 notes)
On Top of the World Difficulty Level 5
Beyond the Summit Difficulty 7 (rewards the Remedium implant set, per the 15 June 2026 notes)

There is also Lightning Runner: complete the Tower on any difficulty in under 30 minutes. The 15 June 2026 patch notes added that difficulties now display detailed descriptions in game, so the in-game text is the final word on what each level changes.

How does difficulty scale enemies?

  • 16 May 2025: enemies have higher levels on difficulties 2 through 7.
  • 30 May 2025: enemy level raised in stages 2 and 3 on difficulties 6 and 7, and the curve between the end of floor 1 and the middle of floor 2 was smoothed.
  • 30 October 2026: the Body Split update says the world gets muddier and bloodier with every new difficulty. That is a visual change.

These notes describe scaling, not new unlock gates.

What do Difficulty 8 and 9 add in KIBORG: Descent?

The Steam store page for the DLC advertises two new difficulty levels for true masters, alongside three new settings, more than ten new enemy types and three legendary bosses from the lore. Patch notes then fill in two details:

  • 9 May 2026 (Rapid patch #4): added skulls to difficulty levels 8 and 9, to better explain that the fight will be tough.
  • 2 May 2026 (Descent hotfix #2): Descent difficulty now automatically increases from the 8th to the 9th level after completion.

Details on the content itself are in the Descent DLC guide.

How do you unlock Difficulty 8 and 9?

The official line comes from the 30 April 2026 launch post: content from the DLC becomes available only after completing the main game for the first time. The same post says the DLC balance assumes you have upgraded most of KIBORG’s enhancements.

The 14 July 2026 Descent rebalance adds another label set: Difficulty Level 1 is balanced for players still progressing through the base game with only part of the upgrade system unlocked, and Difficulty Level 2 is for experienced players who find Tower Difficulty 7 too easy. It does not say whether those two are the same tiers shown as 8 and 9.

How does Endless Mode relate to difficulty?

Endless is not a numbered Tower level. After you defeat the final boss you can continue, and KIBORG team member Geisteskrankenchan says each floor increases enemy damage and attack speed. The 26 June 2025 patch notes also list Endless changes: reduced risk of one-shots, difficulty that scales faster, and rebalanced points.

Which difficulty should you pick?

Stay on lower Tower levels while you finish the hub upgrades, then climb. That matches the official Descent note that the DLC assumes most enhancements are bought. If you are working toward unlocks, remember Commando is tied to Difficulty 4 (see the implants list) and Remedium to Difficulty 7 (see the Remedium build guide), so those are natural stepping stones. Read the beginner guide for skull doors and the boss buffer, and the final boss guide before pushing Level 7.

Putting the order “stable on Level 7, then Descent” together is our advice, not a documented requirement.
